The Indiana Senate Rules Committee sent HJR 3 to the floor on an 8-4 vote last night. Expect action on the Senate floor later this week. And the hits just keep on comin':
State Senate President Pro Tempore David Long, R-Fort Wayne, said following the vote that anything can happen on the Senate floor - including the potential that a member could move to add back the measure's second sentence.
This monumental waste of words, time and resources doesn't simply have the potential to be economically draining, it affects your fellow Hoosiers who simply want the same benefits afforded to Indiana's straight citizens. NUVO's Mark Lee has begun a series of profiles of same-sex unions called "Hoosier Families for Equality," starting with a look at two men who served their country in both WWII and Korea.
Surely the General Assembly would have time to take a look at the horrific number of sexual assaults in Indiana amidst all of this attention ot HJR 3, right? Naaahhhhh.
Now for something positive when it comes to human sexuality: NUVO's Sex Issue drops tomorrow. It'll be informative and, yep, a little racy.
Oh, and yours truly will be at the Fringe Theater tonight for something called "Jabberwocky." I'll join a few other editors from Central Indiana to talk about the fame and riches a career in journalism brings. (That was sarcasm, by the way. OK? OK.)
