The Indiana Regulatory Commission has ordered Indiana Power & Light to suspend butchering, er, trimming trees on private property. The Commission found that a provision IPL has granted itself to go on to private property and butcher, er trim trees is, first of all, unique in the state, and, second, unnecessary for the provision of electric service. Finally, the Commission found the provision "to be without authority granted by statute or Commission rule." The suspension will hold until an ongoing investigation into tree butchery, er, trimming practices across the state is completed. A permanent ban on tree butchery, er, trimming on private property could be forthcoming at that time.
