Steve Tolan and the creative bunch at Indy Power Systems, based in Noblesville, made Discover magazine's "100 Top Stories of 2009" list for their innovative work in blended battery packs. Indy Power Systems' software, says Discover, "switches between lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, offering a transitional technology until lithium energy storage gets cheaper." According to the Indy Power Systems web site (www.indypowersystems.com), their Multi-Flex Energy Management System "can simultaneously blend and optimize any number of energy sources such as batteries, capacitors, fuel cells, wind, solar, and biofuel generators. Any or all of these sources can then be used to power a home, business, vehicle, or be blended with the utility grid as desired." Whatever the heck that means, it sure sounds green to us!
