The Indiana House Ways and Committee endorsed a bill that would put an end to the Daniels Administration's attempts to privatize all or part of the state's services to the neediest Hoosiers. Daniels recently had to cancel a 10-year, $1.3 billion contract with IBM after it became clear that citizens weren't getting the food and medicines they needed. But Daniels wants FSSA to continue to work with some of IBM's subcontractors. A bill by Rep. Gail Riecken (D-Evansville) would make privatization of FSSA services off-limits. The Ways and Means Committee voted 14-10 in support of this idea. The legislation is expected to die in the Republican-controlled Senate.
