The number of people living in poverty in Indiana is growing at an alarming rate. In 2008, Indiana was one of eight states with a significant increase in people overtaken by poverty; our numbers increased by almost a full percentage point, from 12.3 percent to 13.1 percent, or from 757,000 people to 807,000, according to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
