"I’m glad that Hammer is enjoying his IndyGo experience (“Advice for Mayor Ballard,” Jan. 2-9) but I fear that it is more an accident of geography than anything.
Take a look, Steve, at an IndyGo route map sometime. You will see that it resembles the Hindu deity Vishnu with two legs stretching south and a slew of arms heading north, west and east. Don’t forget your roots, Steve, we rubes from the poor side of town do need a way to get to the blood plasma donor centers and the welfare offices.
Specifically, there are only four routes that venture south of Troy Avenue. Only three of these run on Saturday and only one, the #31 to Greenwood, runs on Sunday, and then only once every 90 minutes. If you don’t live near Madison Avenue you are just screwed.
At a minimum I would suggest that the #16, currently running south only to Thompson Road, be extended to County Line Road, that a Southside cross-town route be created (Southport Road would be ideal) and that a Bluff Road route be considered.
It would also be nice if they had some actual IndyGo riders on the IndyGo board. I would be happy to serve ... if I could get to the meetings by bus.
