"I’ve seen Mellencamp since he was opening up for Heart as Cougar. I respect the fact that he is from Indiana and may have something, but my ticket money isn’t spent to listen to him bitch and groan (Music, John Mellencamp, Los Lobos concert review, Nov. 7-14). I’m tired of his insistence that people are out to tell him what he can or can not do. I don’t hear this from MSNBC or anyone, it’s in your mind, John. I wish he’d respect that the audience comes to enjoy a good rock and roll show, not his politics and views for the night. The house was there to rock. With an inventory of dozens of hits, he decided to play a dismal 15-minute acoustic set starting with the classic “Minutes to Memories” so depressing, it left Conseco quiet enough for the audience to start conversations from boredom. The other acoustic songs got even slower so we could all understand every-word-he-was-singing. I was there to rock, not for a sermon.
