"I wanted to point out a mistake that you made with regards to the best vegetarian menu category (Cover, “Best Of,” July 25-Aug. 1). You mentioned that Three Sisters was exclusively vegetarian, when in fact, they offer quite a bit of animal-based food there.
I find it hard to believe that you chose them as having the best vegetarian menu when in fact most of the items that are labeled as vegan or vegetarian cannot be truly classified as such. Why do I say this? Well, they use the same grill to prepare all of those vegetarian items as they do their meat items. For example, you can walk in there on any given day and see most of the people there eating bacon, or some other animal product. If I were to then order a black bean burger, it would be slapped on that same grill, and thus be covered in animal grease and particles, thus making it non-vegetarian. That may not gross you guys out or anything, but for a vegan — GROSS!!!!
I would say that the only things a vegan could enjoy there is the chili, which isn't very good, or a salad (woo hoo, a salad, that sure is pushing the culinary limits!!!).
Truth is, for an area sporting over 1 million people, this city is quite backwards when it comes to its dining habits. All of the major surrounding cities have great vegan/vegetarian dining options (Louisville, Columbus, Ohio, Chicago, St. Louis), too bad we couldn't take a page out of their books.
I'd be embarrassed to present Three Sisters to a group of vegans/vegetarians as it being the best this city has to offer.
