If we can be good without God, then that means we can be good by our standards (News, "Good without God," June 24-July 1). If we have no absolute standard, and go by standards of our own making, then how do we know that we (or a future generation) won't change them? How do we know that in the future, they will not be so weakened and compromised, that such standards would degenerate into absolute madness? Or more simply, how can we be sure of a moral law that we give to ourselves? What moral authority do we have?
