"In “No Ax to Grind,” (Letters, Jan. 16-23) a Mr. Harris thought I had a written a letter to the Star similar to what I wrote to NUVO. I did not, nor did I see the letter and since my last name is uncommon, I do not know how he got confused, but he is.

If Mr. Harris had a basic understanding of economics, he would know that “Two consecutive quarters of decline in real GDP is commonly taken to be a recession.” If he had a basic understanding of logic he would know that since GDP increased in the 3rd quarter 2007, we are not currently in a recession in this country.

That leads to my point: Why did almost two thirds of the NUVO readers responding to a poll think we were in a recession. I submit they must have listened to the spin of the Democrats, the media and people like Mr. Harris to come to that erroneous conclusion.
