"You can always count on someone from the far left to ignore facts and revise history (Hammer, “The Year in Preview,” Dec. 26-Jan. 2). Whereas you claim that Mitch Daniels has done next to nothing in his first term, I see a number of successes. He has taken a number of chances and unpopular positions for what he truly believes to be the right and just thing and ultimately best for the state. By eliminating the state’s terrible debt and restoring fiscal responsibility, which had been on a 12-year hiatus, he has restored Indiana in the eyes of observers from the outside. He has spearheaded the effort to bring new industry to the state to replace the aging rust belt of the north (something I know more than a little about). He is doing largely what he promised to do from day one. He has pissed a lot of people off, which is what happens when you promise change and then deliver.
History will decide his legacy — your column won’t even be an afterthought. Then again, I don’t know exactly what that says about my comments about your column. To be honest, I would find your writing more credible if you departed from the party line from time to time to admit when the right does something good. But according to you, all Republicans are rich or just duped. Either you’re simply pandering to the majority of your readers or you’ve blinded yourself to see only that left is good and right is inherently evil — neither option says much for your journalistic integrity.
