"All of the moaning and groaning about people possibly losing their homes due to high property taxes makes me wonder, where were these people a year ago (News, “Property Tax Outrage and Protests Continue,” July 18-25)?
Over the past year hundreds of registered sex offenders have lost their homes and apartments because of a new hate law that prohibits them from living within 1,000 feet of a park, school or day care center. So these people, who obey the law by registering, are persecuted without any recourse and without any due process of law.
These people have paid their debt to society, most are no longer a threat, the recidivism rate for these offenders is lower than other crimes yet we continue to lump all of them into the same hysterical basket of lies from grandstanding politicians and the ratings-driven media.
No one is protected with these laws and they have driven many offenders underground who no longer bother to register. These people are angry about being continually persecuted and what we don’t need are more people who hate society.
So for those of you who fear the government will take your home, how the hell does it feel?
