I asked every person on the planet, "where's the best place to spend the month of May?" and for the first time ever, everyone, all 8 billion + people, agreed on something. Everyone was quick to pick Indianapolis. But that's no surprise. The gray, depressing weather is over. No more hibernating. Everyone's feeling like Floyd in this may weather. King's Island is open again Kentucky Derby gets the racing juices flowing, the perfect hors(e) d'oeuvres for the real crown jewel of the Month of May, the Indianapolis 500. The race is so much more than just the greatest spectacle in racing. year. There's the good family fun stuff, like going to the track for practices, qualifying, and the 500 parade. which is all good and fun, but that stuff is all pretty self-explanatory. One has fast cars the other has slow cars. Both are fun for all ages. Then there's the Mini Marathon this past weekend for all the runners and Instagram clout chasers making my lazy ass feel bad. just a really fun way to kick things off. 13.1 miles around the city, including a portion on the track at the IMS. This year's winner, Panuel Mkungo, ran a new course record. 1 hour and 1 minute. A blistering 4:42 mile pace. I was a varsity cross country and track runner, and my fastest mile time ever was a 4:45.... He did that 13 times in a row. That's fucking insane. Anna Rohrer, Mishawaka High School's own running legend, brought home the women's title with a 1 hour and 11 minute finishing time. Adding another title to her already impressive resume. Maybe I'll unretire from distance running and run it next year. big maybe.
