The Purdue Boilermakers welcomed the Iowa Hawkeyes for their Big Ten season opener on Saturday, September 27.
A large Homecoming crowd brought high energy into Ross-Ade Stadium, and Purdue's offense and defense responded early.
Defensive back Frankie Williams intercepted Iowa quarterback C. J. Beathard, and went 39-yards to score and put the Boilermakers up early 7-0.
But after a Purdue 42-yard Paul Griggs field goal early in the second quarter, it was all Hawkeyes.
Iowa tallied 24-straight points on 404 yards of offense in the remaining three quarters, and picked Purdue quarterbacks twice.
Purdue's Akeem Hunt rushed for 90 yards (on 14 attempts) of the team total 156 yards of offense for the game. Quarterback Etling was pressured all day, being sacked 4 times and completing just 11 of 26 passes for 61 yards.
Iowa utilized a balanced rush attack of Mark Weisman and Jordan Canzeri, totalling 139 yards and two touchdowns, to control the clock late into the game.
Purdue fell to Iowa 24-10.
Purdue (2-3, 0-1 Big Ten) travels to Illinois (3-2, 0-1 Big Ten), in hopes of getting the young conference season on track.
Iowa (4-1, 1-0 Big Ten) returns home in two weeks to welcome the Indiana Hoosiers (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten).
