The Indiana Fever hoped to bring the momentum from a win in Chicago back to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the best-of-three WNBA first round action. A win at home would lift a depleted but determined Fever squad into the Eastern Conference Finals.
And that is exactly what they did; sweep the No. 1-seeded Chicago Sky with a 79-57 win.
With star veterans Jessica Davenport out for the year and Katie Douglas back on the bench after a roller coaster season of back issues, the Indiana Fever pressed on with their goal to repeat as WNBA Champions.
Tough team defense held the explosive trio of Sky's Elena Delle Donne, Sylvia Fowles, and Epiphanny Prince to 11-34 from the field for the game, including shutting down Delle Donne, WNBA Rookie of the Year, to no points in the second half.
With Chicago in check, the Fever showcased their own team offensive prowess, leading to a 20-point halftime lead. The Sky would not get within 18 points the rest of the game. Tamika Catchings finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and teammate Eriana Larkins added 14 points with 11 rebounds.
The Indiana Fever will face the winner of the Atlanta - Washington series in the Eastern Conference Finals.
