April 8th at Arsenal Tech High School a celebration was given to the Titan Basketball team to thank them for a season long to be remembered. This was no ordinary season for the Titan's, not only did they win the 4A State championship, but they had a team GPA average of 3.2.
Tech also had a player (Trey Lyles) who won the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude award. He is only the second African American to have won the award since 1940. Lyles also won Mr. Basketball of Indiana making him the second player in Titan history to do so. He was selected to the Nike Hoops Summit Basketball World Team and was not able to attend as he is in Portland, Ore. practicing for that team. Lyles is also a McDonalds All American and Gatorade player of the year.
Tonight was a celebration for the community and for all Titans from as far back as the sixties. Landon Turner, a former Titan and Indiana Hoosier Basketball player, was a guest speaker for the Titans. Another guest speaker was IPS Superintendent Lewis Ferebee. Alumni and the rest of the community took some time out to sign a banner made for the team.
