First and foremost, I’d like the record to show that the Hoosiers don’t lose while I’m in attendance.
Secondly, This game was fucking amazing. In all my years, That was one of the greater sports environments I have ever been in (and I was at the bush push game). The Hoosiers took the big lead early. Came out the gates swingin’. Trayce Jackson-Davis had the crowd eating out of his hands all night. I mean, he was giving them a ton to cheer for. Dunks, Blocks, Rebounds, an assist, even. He was everywhere. Finishing with 25 points and 7 rebounds. A lot of those dunks came from alley-oop passes from Jalen Hood Schifino. Fino was as aggressive as ever. And it was exactly what the doctor ordered. When the going got tough, Fino got the buckets the Hoosiers needed. He’d end the night with 16 points and 4 assists. Now I know in journalism, you’re not supposed to be biased. But screw that, My Hoosiers were playing their hearts out for the home fans. It was beautiful to see, not going to lie. Nights like these, and basically any other night, make me wish I was in college again. Tonight would be a fun night. Is Sports still the move on a Saturday night? Fuck now I feel kind of old.
In the First half, the team came out with some serious firepower. They punched first and connected on quite of few early. Not only were Trayce and Fino popping off. But the whole team was chipping in. This was the game I have been waiting for all year. I see so much freaking potential in Malik Reneau, and tonight he was shining. Wasn’t careless or reckless at all tonight, just confident in his teammates and the game plan, and the game came to him so easily. It's hard to classify Malik as a “role guy” because he’s a really unique player. That’ll show more and more as his game refines; the kids are just a freshman. Trey Galloway was huge as well. Hitting clutch free throws and some really crafty scoring. He had one play in the second half where killed his dribble on the block. The 7’4” Zach Edey bared down and another Purdue defender on his hip. Galloway shows them the money and fakes a pass; they bite and leave galloway wide open for an easy two. And the way the second Quarter, those points were huge. Xavier Johnson, the senior guard, still sidelined with an injury, had the most fly shirt I’ve ever seen. I have a hard time imagining that the shirt didn’t play a factor in this win.
As I was saying earlier, the Second Half was quite different from the first half. The Boilermakers remembered that they had the tallest player on the court and went to the paint for three straight buckets to set a pretty deafening tone for the next 20 minutes. Edey finished the night with a whopping 33 points with 18 rebounds which is fucking insane. The Boilermakers worked the ball inside out all half, scoring inside early to get the defense to keep collapsing, then they started to kick the ball back out to wide-open looks from deep. Purdue really started making up ground when the 3s started to fall. Before you know it, It’s a single-digit game. Against the top-ranked team in the nation. Which is just terrifying. Luckily the Hoosiers kept their head on a swivel. Winning the Game 79 - 74. Fino was spectacular down the stretch. He has had plenty of moments that make me go, damn, that's a pro moment. And tonight, Fino was nothing short of the most talented player on the court down the stretch. He drove it right at Edey, who is still 7’4”, like an absolute madman, and fucking made it to keep the cushion the Hoosiers needed to win the game. I think Race Thompson deserves a lot of credit for his play down the stretch, too, since I didn’t mention him yet.
Too bad for Purdue; costly free throw misses and too many turnovers will ruin even the best of teams. Sike!! Purdue can kiss my Hoosier ass, that's right. I don’t feel bad at all, IU was the better team tonight, and It showed! The vibes were high after the game, but it was clear in the post-game interviews that Coach Mike Woodson and the hyphen gang Hood- Schifino and Jackson Davis are already focused on some sweet, sweet revenge against jersey’s finest, Rutgers. Because that's what better teams do, no time to rest on laurels. The Hoosiers have some Scarlet Knights to fuck up this Tuesday.
Is it me, or does Scalet Knights sound like a name for a strip club or what
