(PG) Kevin Costner
Mad Max gets hosed down. There was a feeding frenzy in 1995 over “Waterworld,” director Kevin Reynolds and star Kevin Costner's epic adventure story set in the future, where the polar ice caps have melted and the remnants of humanity float on the all-encompassing ocean, hoping the legends that dry land still exists are true. When the budget for the filmed-at-sea blockbuster spun wildly out of control, the press had a ball mocking the Kevins and many critics bashed the hell out of their finished film. Though the holes in logic are huge, “Waterworld” isn't bad at all. Costner is fine as a mutant outcast, the action scenes are tres cool and the relationships work well enough. This DVD release showcases Reynolds' original version of the film, before it got chopped down from 177 minutes to 136 by the powers-that-be. DVD INFO: Includes both the theatrical release and the extended edition of the film.
