A country music singer (Toby Keith) whose career is on the rocks comes home for his brother’s funeral and finds himself face-to-face with his high school sweetheart (Kelly Preston) and her 16-year-old daughter (Lindsey Haun), whom he’s never met.
Keith, one of today’s biggest names in country music, does a fine job in his first leading role. Haun is the movie’s scene stealer as the rebellious daughter who starts out wanting nothing to do with her mother, her absent father or the small town they grew up in. By movie’s end, the youngster discovers the love that exists between her and her family.
Burt Reynolds, Tess Harper and Willie Nelson also star in the film. The soundtrack features songs performed by numerous artists, including Keith, Nelson and Haun. One of the songs, “Broken,” performed by Haun, has received considerable radio and video airplay.
DVD features include a concert video of Keith’s “Alien,” additional off-road footage from the film and a featurette about filming scenes for the movie on a military base with members of the military.
