An Interfaith Candlelight Prayer Vigil and Rally for Health Care for All will be held Aug. 1, 9:30 p.m. with music beginning at 9:15 p.m., at the Indiana Statehouse lawn downtown. The Indianapolis event will launch similar events across the country as part of a national Let Our Light Shine initiative in August and early September, timed to coincide with the August congressional recess.

Speakers will include Bishop T. Garrett Benjamin, senior pastor of Light of the World Christian Church, Indianapolis, the congregation which proposed the original resolution on which the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) took its position in support of health care for all; the Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins, general minister and president of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and member of President Obama's Advisory Council of Faith Leaders; and the Rev. Dr. John Thomas, general minister and president of the United Church of Christ, a leader in faith-inspired health care reform advocacy; and numerous Indianapolis faith leaders.

RSVPs are appreciated but not required: Participants are also asked to bring extra candles to share.
