District 2 Candidate: Sam Goldstein, Libertarian

District 2 Libertarian candidate Sam Goldstein.

Sam Goldstein

Libertarian candidate for

District 2

1.What do you offer as a

I own a small business (Goldstein Insurance Agency) and have lived

in Indianapolis for my whole life. As a Libertarian I offer a fresh

perspective on the purpose of government and will apply those

principle of a smaller and more tolerant local government to my tenure

on the City-County Council.

2. What does your district most need from the

City Council?

Infrastructure improvements

such as sidewalks and repaving of many streets.

3.What's your opinion of the

2012 budget proposed by the mayor?

The proposed budget spends too much money on supporting

professional sports franchises, arts councils, golf courses and other services

which do not belong in the realm of government, but in

the private sector.

4. What is your position on a comprehensive

smoking ban?

I am not only opposed to a comprehensive smoking ban I would work

to overturn the existing smoking ban as it pertains to private property.

Business owners should be able to make their own decisions as to whether to

allow a legal substance to be consumed on their premises. I hold

this position despite being a non-smoker and refusing to frequent

establishments that currently allow smoking.

5.Do you think the city needs

more police officers?

No, I think the existing police force could be better used

investigating and preventing crimes against people and their property and not

wasting time and resources on prostitution, drug users, traffic violators, etc.

6. Do you support increased funding for public transit?

No, the public transit system should be self-funding and

self-sustaining. I especially oppose any type of regional transit system

including a boondoggle like a light rail system.

7. Do you think the streets and sidewalks in your

district are in good shape?

For the most part the existing main roads and sidewalks are in

decent shape, but many neighborhoods need their roads repaved and new sidewalks

8. Name one project that would most benefit your

Bike paths and sidewalks

that do not interfere with existing traffic patterns.

9. What question do you wish we'd asked?

Do you support giving millions of dollars each year to support

professional sports franchises and their venues?
