Columbia University professor of journalism Todd Gitlin discusses his new book The Bulldozer and the Big Tent: Blind Republicans, Lame Democrats, and the Recovery of American Ideals in which he explains why Republicans have been so successful in burying disagreements in the drive for victory while Democrats struggle for cohesion among identity based groups that so often seem to have their own agendas. While he’s critical of the current administration and Republican policies, Gitlin also argues that Democrats will have to bite the bullet and unite under a big tent if they want to affect any type of political and social change. Gitlin will speak at the Arthur M. Glick JCC, 6701 Hoover Rd. For more information go to www.jccindy.org. Part of the NUVO Social Justice Series 2007.
