Mayor Ballard and United Water have agreed to plant 5,000 trees over four years and create wetlands to divert storm water run-off and cut down on combined sewer overflows. The city administration believes the plan will both enhance the environment and save taxpayer dollars by reducing the cost of sewer and drainage projects. The green initiative should keep 20 to 30 percent of storm water from going into the sewer system.
