I was amazed by the story on biofuel (Cover, “Biofuel: Is It the Key to Indiana’s Future?” April 12-19). In the second paragraph, the author was surprised by the lack of support from the environmental people. Fifty percent of the energy that goes in to the production is consumed by the process. The extra fertilizer and pesticides will end in our waterways and ground water. She also talks about the subsidies for farmers, but 95 percent of all those go to the largest corporations, not to small family farms. Larry Bird owns one that receives substantial subsides, while the small farmers in Indiana receive less than 0.05 percent of federal funds. Please do your homework, as I could go on and on about the other things you missed, or read right off the press release issued by the state.
