Yes, the weather has been beautiful and since Tuesday the birds are chirping more happily, oceans are receding, polar ice caps are growing and “hope” and “optimism” are in the air (especially at NUVO, New York Times, NBC, etc.) (Hammer, “Let Us Begin,” Nov. 5-12). Of course, euphoria over Obama winning the election is marred by nervousness and paranoia over what the “meanies” on the “radical right” will do in opposition to the Messiah.
As for the fractured and divided nation we have, it could not possibly have anything to do with hyper-partisanship on the part of Democrats for the past eight years, could it? Bush “reached out” to Democrats on education, campaign finance “reform” (which was supposed to take big money out of politics — but resulted in more money than ever being spent in campaigns) and, for the most part, spoke respectfully of Democrats. Bush rarely even criticized Democrats, and he certainly never impugned them or their motives in a demonizing way, as Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy and other Democrat leaders (not to mention the liberal media) did. On the other hand, Democrats in Congress opposed nearly everything that Bush and Republicans wanted as they and their willing accomplices in the media (including you and the rest of NUVO) positively DEMONIZED Bush as “Hitler,” a “fascist” or worse. Yes, there is division, but it is primarily an intentional product of BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) on the left (as weekly displayed in NUVO).
I appreciate your “hand of friendship for the other side.” I think you will find that although there may be a few on the right who will be inclined to treat Obama in a similar fashion to the way Bush has been treated by Democrats in the Congress, NUVO and MoveOn, most conservatives will be respectful of Obama and give him a chance to show that he is not the liberal that his record as a state senator and U.S. senator indicates that he is and that he will govern for the good of ALL Americans and not for the sole benefit of his constituents at the expense of those who did not vote for him.
