On May 23, 2007, we listed the names of the 96 soldiers from Indiana who have died thus far as a result of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (“The Cost of War: Nearly 100 Hoosier Lives”). Three more Hoosiers have been killed since then, bringing the Indiana soldier death count to 99:

97. Air Force Sgt. Ryan A. Balmer

Hometown: Mishawaka

Age: 33

Died: June 5, 2007

Incident: Died as a result of injuries sustained after a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Kirkuk.

98. Army Spc. Clinton C. Blodgett

Hometown: Pekin

Age: 19

Died: May 26, 2007

Incident: Killed when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Baghdad.

99. Army Sgt. Robert J. Montgomery Jr.

Hometown: Scottsburg

Age: 29

Died: May 22, 2007

Incident: Died as a result of injuries sustained after a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Al Jabour.
