Waiting for an alternative idea
How ironic is it that Steve Hammer, of all people, is bitching about the journalistic integrity of a writer at The Indianapolis Star (“‘Star’ Columnists Whining,” May 3-10)?
I have flipped the pages of NUVO for several years now in hopes that NUVO will allow an alternative idea to seep into its editorials only to continually find the systematic ravings of white liberals (well, the ones who get their mugs featured are white). In fact, the opinions at NUVO are so patently inbred one can hear dueling banjos and squealing pigs when in the proximity of corporate headquarters.
Now don’t get me wrong, NUVO is privately owned and owes no responsibility to employ conservative writers, but I do question how wise it is to openly criticize Star writer Tully for ignoring 1.7 percent of the population when NUVO regularly ignores the 75 percent of the population to the right of Barbara Streisand.
Hammer is quick to chastise Tully for his dismissal of those wishing to challenge his ideas. Yet, consider this jewel from Hammer’s own Web site: “Neocons crack me up. Dumbasses. Go away. Piss off. Go masturbate to a picture of Mann Coulter or something.” (July 31, 2005). Ah, now that’s some class, huh? Almost as classy as professing a desire to smash the windshields of those who voted differently than he, huh?
The Star may be a less than exceptional periodical and perhaps it paces a bit to the right, but they do at least have editorials from the left for variety (e.g. Ellen Goodman, Juan Dixon). I just find it amazing that anyone from NUVO would throw stones from such a precarious glass menagerie.
