"Indianapolis Animal Care and Control announced in a press release Friday that a multi-agency task force dedicated to stamping out the practice of dog fighting is in the works.
The task force is a joint effort by law enforcement officials from Indianapolis Animal Care and Control, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Humane Society of the United States and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Mayor Bart Peterson was quick to lend his support.
“By combining the resources of these agencies we can make major progress in our fight against the criminals in our community,” Peterson said. “Dog fighting is a heinous crime that frequently coexists with drug and weapon crimes and these are people we must bring to justice.”
Formed just this month, the Indianapolis Dog Fighting task force is in need of donations to fund the purchase of equipment necessary to investigate dog fighting rings.
To report dog fighting activity, citizens should call 317-262-TIPS. Callers who report information that leads to prosecution could receive a cash reward. Anonymous calls are welcome.
To contact the task force directly, call 317-327-1425. Those who wish to make a donation can do so at www.friendsofindyacc.org.
