Discount opportunities at the Phoenix
In response to the letter “Expensive Arts” submitted by Sabrina Falls (Mail, June 28-July 5), I’d like to respond with a little information about the Phoenix Theatre and a number of discounted opportunities we provide our patrons.
I would like to start by thanking David Hoppe for his editorial “Change in the Weather” (June 7-14) and also thanks to Ms. Falls for attending when finances permit. I can certainly relate to selective spending in this day and age. The Phoenix recognizes this challenge and offers a quarter of our annual performances at a discounted ticket price. We offer a “Pay-What-You-Can” preview for nearly EVERY show we produce. This is always the Wednesday of our opening week for each show and “buys” you admittance for the cost of a donation or canned good, which we donate to Gleaners Food Bank or the Damien Center. In addition, we started a special promotion this past fall/winter season known as CheapSeats Weekend, where ALL tickets are merely $15. This includes musicals, as well, so a normal $29 ticket is only $15 opening weekend.
We continue to offer a Youth Discount for people 24 and younger ($15 tickets), as well as our participation in Free Ticket February, where we give away FREE tickets to people 13-19 so they, too, can experience live theater.
Our FlexPass tickets offer patrons a discounted rate for buying in advance and we extend a number of volunteer opportunities that garner free tickets to ushers, volunteers for special events and volunteers for various construction and cleaning projects throughout the year.
On a side note, Free Ticket February and “Pay-What-You-Can” previews not only help our patrons financially, but also help the community in general.
So, again, thank you for your patronage and I hope this helps shed a little light on the various discount opportunities we offer at the Phoenix.
