There will be a statewide Hoosiers for Peace Rally at Monument Circle on Saturday, March 18 from 1-3 p.m., marking the third anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Speakers include former Congressman Andy Jacobs Jr., author and attorney Sheila Suess Kennedy, writer and columnist Pamela Taylor, Green Party candidate Bill Stant and Peace and Justice Center’s James Wolfe.
There will be lots of entertainment, including theater, dance, music and poetry, as well as speeches. Doves will be released toward the beginning of the event and balloons with names of Indiana soldiers killed in Iraq will be released toward the end after a reading of their names. The slogan for the event is “Honor the Dead. Heal the Wounded. End the War.” The event will focus on the harm to families from members being killed or wounded in the war and from funds being diverted from helping families. For more info, phone Heather Allen-Garde at 317-202-9302 or visit hoosiersforpeace.org.
The event is sponsored by Progressive Indiana, Indianapolis Peace and Justice Center, Veterans for Peace Chapter 49, Indiana Peace and Justice Network, Bloomington Peace Action Coalition, Earth-Solar Technologies, Plowshares, Code Pink of Ft. Wayne, Common Bonds, SAGE at IUPUI, Christians for Peace and Justice in the Middle East and Bill Stant.
