On Wednesday the Indiana Ice began their defense of the league championship they secretly won last year. They lost the first game of their best-of- five series against the Cedar Rapids Roughriders 6-0, and will play them again on Friday night before the series comes to Indy on Saturday night.
The puck drops at 7 p.m. at Pan Am Plaza. Because Pepsi Coliseum is going to be occupied by the Hoosier Horse Fair and Expo, the Ice home games for the first round of the playoffs have been relegated to the downtown skating rink. Only in Indiana would hockey playoffs be moved from a stadium for a Horse Fair.
If a fourth game is necessary, it will be Monday night at the same time and location. Should the Ice eliminate the Roughriders from the playoffs for the second straight season, they will face the winner of the Green Bay/Waterloo series; ah… the classic old Green Bay/Waterloo rivalry: one for the ages.
