IMN site changes
While we certainly appreciate Wayne Bertsch’s enthusiasm for the Indianapolis musical community and share his hopes for a happy and prosperous new year for all of the fans and creators of Indianapolis music, we were saddened to see the inaccuracy in the latest Barfly cartoon relating to “much of the site” being closed to the public (Sound, Jan. 4-11).
While IndianapolisMusic.net did start charging a slight membership fee to post comments in certain areas of the message board, Bertsch failed to print that all of the articles IMN publishes remain free to the public, as do the listings we maintain for concert calendars, concert venues and local artists. He also fails to mention the podcast we produce each week is distributed freely (which features both local and national artists culled from the free and legal music available on the Internet).
Given the amount of time Bertsch spent crusading against the charges, we would have expected a more informed and detailed opinion. What he calls “much of the site” actually represents a small portion of the mission we at IMN are pursuing. The changes have allowed IMN to pay our server fees — all editors, writers, and support staff associated with the site are volunteers.
Thank you for opportunity to clear up the inaccuracies.
