Weekend live comedy preview

The best comedian you’ve never heard of is at Crackers Broadripple this weekend. Roy Wood Jr. is more well-known for prank calls on the radio than he is stand-up comedy, but seeing him live is damn close to a perfect experience of live comedy.

That’s not to say that he is the best comedian in America yet, but he is the best still on the club circuit, and he probably won't be at these smaller venues much longer. Because of his relative obscurity his shows are still accessible and affordable, for now.

You can’t go wrong at Crackers Downtown this weekend, either. I’ve never heard of the headliner Mo Mandel, but local comedian Jeff Oskay is the featured act. Jeff is the best local stand-up comedian in Indianapolis, and it will be interesting to see how he thrives as a featured act with more stage time than he usually gets.

The other great local comedy act, $3 Bill sketch comedy, continues their run of “Pre-Existing Conditions” at ComedySportz on Mass Ave., Friday night at 10 pm.

Last and definitely least, “The Comedians of Chelsea Lately” is going to be at the Murat. I’d give you some more information about this but Chelsea Lately sucks and attending this event would be a waste of time and money.

More than most forms of entertainment, stand-up comedy lineups are subject to last-minute changes, as well as unexpected sell-outs. Please be sure to check the website of the venue (or call and reserve tickets) before heading out, and make sure to be aware of any updated times, prices, availability or performers.

If you are aware of any upcoming events or venues that are not included here, please feel free to comment them below or email aroberts@nuvo.net!
