Much has been made of the fact that Seymore Saves the World bassist Shawn Neary was once the bassist for Tapes N’ Tapes. With the release of their self-titled debut album this year, however, Neary’s Minneapolis-based trio has proven itself worthy of attention for musical talent alone.
Seymore Saves the World play melodic piano pop somewhere between Ben Folds and the Format. Neary and the band’s two other members, Scott Hefte and Michael McGregor, met while they were attending Luther College in Iowa. After college, Hefte left for graduate school in Ohio. Seymore Saves the World formed three years ago.
On Sunday, the band will take the stage at the Melody Inn as part of its tour of the Midwestern and Northeastern states, which they began this spring to promote the new album.
