My Old Kentucky Blog and The Vogue (along with a host of other locals arts organizations) are jumping into the Pecha Kucha game August 27. Let's define that first, because while Pecha Kucha is a phenomenon familiar to our city's cognoscenti (and originally, the architecture and design communities), we still struggle to say it out loud: It's "PEH-cha KOO-cha," and it developed as a way to present information in a non-boring fashion via timed slideshow presentations (20 slides, 6:40 minutes long, with 20 seconds per slide).
Alcohol is an integral part of the event — while it resembles a board meeting in a way, it's definitely a send-up and not at all stuffy — so it makes sense to move the event uptown to a nightclub.

And after an hour and a half of Pecha Kucha, the guitar pop trio The Pieces, consisting of feted music scene veterans Vess Ruhtenberg, Heidi Gluck and Devon Ashley, will take the stage at 10:45. This is a one-off reunion show for the group, scheduled to play last year's Broad Ripple Music Fest kickoff until Gluck broke a limb.
This edition of Pecha Kucha promises to be music-centric, although we don't have a list of the ten scheduled presenters as of yet.
Details: 8 p.m. doors, 9 p.m. Pecha Kucha, 10:45 p.m. The Pieces. $10 pre-sale tickets available July 20 through July 22 at http://thepiecespechakucha.eventbrite.com/. $12 tix available after that window from all the usual sources.
