This Saturday marks the 2nd annual My Friends The Pit Fest. The day-long hardcore festival serves as a showcase of regional hardcore talent. Scott Kilcoyne, the mastermind behind the fest, is well versed on the local hardcore scene. Not only does he promote shows but he is the front man of local hardcore powerhouse Picked Clean.
The idea for the fest came as a “eureka!” moment for Kilcoyne. Like many other music fans in the city, Kilcoyne found himself frustratedly driving out of town to see a show that easily could have been in Indianapolis. On the drive, he and his friends got the notion to book their own fest and draw all their favorite midwest hardcore bands to Indianapolis for one sweaty event. “there wasn't really a 'straight forward' Hardcore fest in the Midwest” said Kilcoyne in an interview “and nothing like this was happening in Indianapolis at all.”
Last year the fest was a weekend of mayhem and moshing and chair-throwing and fist fights; everything a hardcore fest should be about. While the fest was going on, Kilcoyne was taking mental notes. “There are mistakes I made last year” admitted Kilcoyne “that I am going to be fixing this year. Things that will make things easier for me and make things run smoother for everyone.”
This year, MFTP has been condensed into one massive day at the E.S. Jungle. As for the line up, Kilcoyne has pulled some of the biggest names in midwest hardcore. “This year has a few bigger bands,” mentioned Kilcoyne “but there is also a hand full of bands that played last year too.” Some of the featured bands include the always-fun Chicago acts Weekend Nachos and RazorXFade. Oh, and Picked Clean is playing too.
So clear your Saturday schedule and stretch your mosh muscles because My Frieds The Pit Fest II is going to blow you away.
