Chateau Thomas Winery
Friday, Feb. 4
Sometimes it’s difficult to find good, clean fun that’s actually entertaining … especially in the ‘burbs. Chateau Thomas Winery in Plainfield is trying to make Friday nights a little better for the more mature set, who like great live music, food, and wine without dealing with pounding speakers and loud patrons who have a tendency to lose their cookies.
Local singer Annie Steele, who serves as event hostess every week, added some insight into exactly how Music Uncorked works. According to Miss Steele, Uncorked showcases local musicians performing original music and covers in an In-The-Round structure. Personal conversation about the music is shared in a laidback format, much like MTV’s Unplugged used to be. Patrons are able to get a true glance at the musicians (such as IUPUI music faculty member Dave Morgan, who performed this week) and their art.
Uncorked is somewhat seasonal, running in the Vineyard Room through March 18. After that, the free outdoor series, Music on the Veranda, picks up for the summer. Steele remarked that the event has been extremely successful thus far, with both patrons and musicians pleased with the structure, as well as the turn out. Currently, Uncorked does not hold auditions, but artists should feel free to send music for consideration.
It is an all-ages event and venue, and children are welcome, but, most children, unless they’re especially into the common blues/country/jam band music combo, probably will not enjoy themselves. Food is served until 9 p.m., including full entrees, appetizers and cheese plates, and wine by the glass or bottle from the Winery.
