If there is one thing that grabs my attention about a bar, it’s having a bartender that can have my drink already mixing before I get a chance to order. It’s this element that makes Excalibur Lounge a great place to go, because after one visit, you’ll feel like a regular.
What really sets this bar apart is its location. Off the beaten path, it resides inside of the Clarion Hotel. This left me with an overwhelming sense of relief, for I knew if I got too tipsy, I didn’t need to call a taxi: I could get a room.
Newly remodeled by owner Reese Butters, Excalibur has a sports bar feel mixed in with remnants of its original Irish theme. It offers a comfortable environment for customers to enjoy drinks and listen to live music.
And unlike some bars in Indy, Excalibur Lounge actually has furniture that you aren’t afraid to use. With most places around here, you don’t know if what’s in front of you is a chair or a table.
Relaxed and informal, this bar can cater to any crowd. Event promoter Jeff Stafford puts together some high-caliber shows like a singer/songwriter contest that wrapped up on Feb. 8. I attended all of the trials and the Grand Finals and was very impressed with the participants.
