Twin Cats to be ESPN house band

Fans gather for the face-melting funk of the Twin Cats.

I just caught the Twin Cats for the first time at the Mousetrap last Saturday, but they've been drawing crowds in Indy for years. They've recently received the exciting news that they'll be taking the role of house band for ESPN's SportsNation (which will be filmed in Pan Am Plaza the entire week leading up to the Super Bowl).

I grabbed Nicholas Gerlach, tenor sax and EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) player for the Cats since 2004 for a quick interview.

"We found out last month that we were being offered the job. We had known it was a possibility for a while. It was pretty tough to keep it a secret," said Gerlach.

We'll have a full interview from the Twin Cats in our January 25 Super Bowl events spread. Keep checking in for more SB-related music coverage as we get closer to the Bowl of All Bowls. And if you're a local musician who has scored a cool gig, let us know at music@nuvo.net.
