Indiana’s own Doug Henthorn and his band performed to a packed house at The Jazz Kitchen on Wednesday night, December 28, 2022.  The crowd was clearly there to see Henthorn  - as he also mentioned he thought he personally knew everyone in the room.   With a night of just really great music, add to that the feeling of having a large gathering of all your favorite friends, and you might come close to the atmosphere of the club and the leftover holiday warmth that this night provided.

I’ve enjoyed seeing Henthorn many times as he delivers crowd favorites in a set that mixes through some covers and impressive originals.   Described as rock music with a healthy dose of newly termed ‘Alternative Blues,’ Henthorn has played all over the world but still comes home to Indiana.

My particular favorites were tunes he wrote during the pandemic, including “Counting Down Every Minute” and “That’s Alright.”  But then he throws in one of my favorite Eagles tunes, “Wasted Time,” a Beatles tune, “Across the Universe,” “Drive” by the Cars, “The Thrill is Gone” by BB King, and “Run with the Pack” by Bad Company – well you get the picture.

With a support band of Tim Fuller (bass), Brian Yarde (drums), and Troye Kinnett (keys), many of the songs this night are featured on Henthorn’s latest and third solo release, Three. Check out his latest project here, with the added bonus of all the lyrics provided to deepen your listening pleasure.

Doug Henthorn is another one of Indy’s musical treasures.  Check him out whenever you can.
