Jenny Lewis, "Acid Tongue"

Louder, rowdier and less focused than the Rilo Kiley frontlady’s modest solo debut, Rabbit Fur Coat, Acid Tongue offers six or seven of the season’s most memorable tunes — and a couple head scratchers — that feature an all-star cast of players including Elvis Costello and She & Him. Up front, as it should be, is Lewis’ priceless cutesy voice and sweet sassy swagger, both of which sound best here on the slower, more soulful numbers. The lyrics on Acid surely won’t blow any minds, but the sturdy Americana backdrops and Lewis’ crush-ready pipes sound just right this time of year.
