• Jazz appreciation month free concerts at the Artsgarden during the next week include: 3rd Man experimental jazz at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday; the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra, at 2 p.m. on Sunday; and Convergence classic jazz and blues at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

• The Chatterbox, 435 Mass. Ave., features the hard-swinging Brandon Meeks Trio on Friday. Convergence plays classic jazz on Saturday. Music both nights begins at 10:30 p.m.; $5 cover charge. Cathy Morris + 4 performs at the Sunday Jazz Jam at 8:30 p.m.; no cover charge.

• Jazz singer D.A. Young plays Deano’s Vino, 1112 S. Shelby St., Saturday at 7 p.m.

• Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, 45 S. Illinois St., has guitarist Bill Lancton performing with the Ken Fary Duo Sunday at 7 p.m.; no cover charge.

• Keyboardist/vocalist Dave Ellman plays and sings standards with a jazz style Saturdays at the Sangiovese Ristorante, 4110 E. 82nd St., at 6:30 p.m.

• And don’t forget: This Saturday, April 14 kicks off a free new jazz festival and also ends radio station WICR’s spring fund drive. Some of Indy’s best local jazz musicians will christen the  first WICR Jazz Festival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Smith Mall, 1400 E. Hanna Ave.
