• Music critics from national jazz publications have been giving high marks to Owl Studio’s pianist, Steve Allee (of Indy), for his new CD, Colors. The reviews in from England’s Jazzwise magazine gave Allee four out of five stars. The Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra have also garnered rave media reviews for their Christmas CD, Carol of the Bells.
• Jazz on the Avenue, in the fourth floor Grand Casino Ballroom of the Madame Walker Theatre, will serve the jazz sounds of Paradigm on Friday, October 26 from 6-10 p.m. Admission is $10 with an optional buffet for $10.
• The combination of jazz and poetry will be showcased at 7 p.m. Friday, October 26, at the Lockerbie Coffee House. Monika Herzig’s piano will provide the jazz, and Norbert Krapf will read his poetry. Both artists have recorded a CD, Imagine, highlighting their talents, with guest performances by David Baker and Bob Berg.
• When Bill Lancton’s Indy Guitar Summit takes the stage at the Jazz Kitchen Friday, Oct. 26, a special guest from Chicago, guitarist Henry Johnson, will be included in the lineup. Johnson is noted for his recording with Ramsey Lewis and Nancy Wilson. Rounding out the Summit will be Frank Steans and Sandy Williams. Performances will take place at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
• Noted jazz trumpeter Sean Jones will debut his new sextet at the Jazz Kitchen Sunday, Oct. 28. Jones holds down the first trumpet chair with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and is touring supporting his new CD, Kaleidoscope. Listening to Jones’ burning solos, you can hear influences of Freddie Hubbard. Shows take place at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
• Stacie Sandoval, leader of Orquesta Bravo!, will debut her Tropical Jazztet at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, downtown, on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. No cover charge.
