Bohren and Der Club of Gore, "Ipecac"

Seldom do you hear a band say as much as their hushed, atmospheric music does while playing so little (and with no vocals, to boot). The instrumentation — upright bass, vibraphones, tenor sax, brushed drums and (depending on the track) either organ or Fender Rhodes piano — suggests jazz, but it isn’t really. Call it “doom lounge,” or cocktail music for a Berlin opium den. Whatever the case, it makes for some of the most evocative, penetrating late-night ambience music since Vangelis’ Blade Runner soundtrack.
