Mark your calendars for the second installment of the year’s most exciting culinary event. Devour Downtown, Downtown Indy Restaurant Week will be held July 17-23. With a total of 24 restaurants, offering special prix fixe multicourse menus for $30, there’s no reason not to enjoy the great cuisine of downtown’s eclectic restaurants. This year’s diverse participants include everyone from 14 West to Rock Bottom to Buffalo Wild Wings. For a full list of restaurants, visit www.indyrestaurantweek.com.
In addition, the Indianapolis Downtown Restaurant and Hospitality Association (IDRHA) and numerous downtown restaurants will host a special event on July 17 to kick off the week. Proceeds from the event will benefit Second Helpings. The event will be held at One Emmis Plaza on the Circle from 4-6 p.m. with samplings being offered from many of Indy’s finest restaurants. Limited to 750, tickets for the event are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Slow Food Indy is sponsoring a benefit to send small-scale food producers from Indiana to the Terre Madre International Slow Food gathering. The benefit dinner will take place on Sunday, July 16 at 5 p.m. at the Huddleston Farmhouse Inn Museum, 838 National Road (U.S. 40) in Mt. Auburn, Ind. The meal will feature a bounty of local food products prepared just as the Huddlestons enjoyed them, according to early 19th century recipes and cooking methods. The four-course menu will be served in the farmhouse’s candlelit dining room and will feature dishes from the hearth, the churn, the garden and the field. Arrive at 5 p.m. to try your hand at cooking in the 1840s kitchen. Reservations are required and the cost is $35. Make your reservations early as space is limited.
