Upland Brewing Company takes the Gold
Indiana"s very own Upland Brewing Company, based in Bloomington, has won the highest award attainable in American brewing: a gold medal at the Great American Beer festival. Brewer Ed Herrmann, who graduated in Biology from Cornell and received his formal training at the legendary 12 Aposteln Brewery in Frankfurt, sees this as a major achievement for the brewery. "This beer, the Upland Wheat, is our flagship beer, accounting for 35 to 40% of our outside sales. I was shocked and surprised, not to mention excited, that our most famous product should end up being a winner."
The Upland Wheat, truly an artisanal creation, is made with the subtle inclusion of coriander, orange peel and chamomile, giving it a uniquely refreshing, spicy quality that sets it apart from other domestic wheats. Interestingly, it won its gold medal in the herb and spice category, a notoriously difficult and competitive area. Available in bottles at most quality retail outlets, Upland Wheat is also on tap at Chalkies.
