Wine & hoops
Yeah, you read that headline correctly. Maybe you had another drink in mind when it comes to associating the game of basketball with a particular alcoholic beverage? Well, think again. The Pacers Foundation is presenting a Wine Tasting Night preceding the Pacers vs. 76ers game on Saturday, Feb. 28. From 6:30 to 8 p.m., participants can sample wines from a handful of Indiana wineries, including Oliver Winery, Shady Lake Winery, Terre Vin Winery, French Lick Winery, Chateau Thomas Winery and Brown County Winery.
Complimentary wine, cheese and crackers will be provided along with a Pacers wine glass. Just don't slam dunk it somewhere! Tickets for the second annual Wine Tasting Night with the Indiana Pacers can be purchased by calling Craig Holloway at 917-2988. Prices range from $57 to $106, and of course include seating at the sporting contest that will ensue subsequent to the tasting of wines. Deadline for reservations is Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.
Conner Prairie, 13400 Allisonville Road, is offering Hearthside Suppers Jan. 9-11, 16-18, 23-25 and Wednesdays - Sundays, Feb. 1-March 28.
Guests are immersed in the nuances of preparing and eating a 19th century meal. Costumed, historical interpreters lead guests via lanterns down a wooded path to the historic 1823 William Conner home. Guests may participate in such activities as churning butter, grinding coffee, preparing vegetables and baking bread. After the meal, participants will enjoy a guided tour of the Conner home, and the evening will be capped off with a cup of coffee or tea, dessert and after-dinner, 19th century-style parlor games. Plus, each guest will receive a booklet of the evening's recipes.
Dinners are $45 ($40 for members) and must be prepaid. A maximum of 12 guests (14 if from the same party) can be accommodated per evening. Call 776-6006.
