Tune into Too Many Cooks! on WICR, 88.7 FM at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2 when Patti & Gary welcome Tony Hanslits, who was recently named director of culinary education at the new Chef’s Academy at Indiana Business College. Most recently executive chef at 14 West, Hanslits will discuss the academy’s program and his role in training future chefs.
Indiana’s wine industry continues to expand with the opening of a new winery in Central Indiana. Buck Creek Winery, which opened earlier this summer, is located at 11747 Indian Creek Road South, just off of Interstate 74 in Marion County. The winery is selling estate-grown Chambourcin, Seyval Blanc, Arbor Red and Autumn Blush wines. Other varieties soon to be released include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Strawberry, Muscat Alexander and Seyval Grigio. The winery is the result of 15 years of grape growing by Jeff and Kelly Durm at Buck Creek Vineyard. Free wine tasting is available. Fondue lovers on the Southside will be happy to know that the Melting Pot is expanding into Greenwood. The new location is under construction at 1259 North S.R. 135 and is scheduled to be open by late fall. Stay tuned for more information about its opening.
Rumors have it that the Mezza Luna location in Broad Ripple will soon be Indy’s third location of Boulder, Colo.-based Noodles & Company. One wonders if this is a sign of the times for Broad Ripple or just another niche fast food chain that will find a home in a neighborhood long known for its locally owned eateries and watering holes.
More news circulating around the foodie scene is that downtown Indianapolis will be getting its first exclusively tapas-themed restaurant in the form of St. Louis-based Barcelona Tapas (www.barcelonatapas.com). The location will be at the corner of Ohio and Delaware downtown, a part of downtown long bereft of nighttime and finer dining options.
