There are few foods in the world that people seem to universally love more than cheese. And this Sunday, April 22, if you head to The Cyrus Place you can spend your afternoon chowing down on cheesy deliciousness being created by some of Indy's top chefs during the Indy Gourmet Club Cheese Wars.Â
The event, which is presented by Urban Awareness Gardens, pits 10 local chefs from all around the city against one another to create the best cheese-centric dishes using the local cheeses. The cheeses are provided by seven local cheese artisans including: Caprini, Capriole Goat Cheese, Jacobs & Brichford Cheese, Paramount School of Excellence, Risin' Creek Nubians, Schnabeltier and Tulip Tree Creamery.Â
Some of the bites you can expect to see and taste during the competition include a ThunderReuben from chef John Herndon of Thunderbird who uses a Jacobs and Brichford Briana cheese to create a reuben sandwich, and chef Erin Kem of Cannon Ball Brewing's goat ricotta gnocchi with elk salami.
Guests will see the dishes prepared, get to learn more about the chefs and producers and, in the end, get to taste the 10 unique and dishes. Joining Herndon and Kem as competitors in the competition are Cindy Hawkins of Circle City Sweets, Craig Mariutto of Shoefly Public House, Eli Laidlaw of Plat 99, Josh Baker of Ukiyo, Sam Mack of Open Society Public House, Allen Smith of Meridian Restaurant and Bar, Casey Deal and Matt Steinbronn of The Gallery Pastry Shop, and Casey Kay and Nasim Jafari of Cummins.Â
Indy Gourmet Club's goal with events like Cheese Wars is to have a community that is focused on Indiana's vast and quality local and sustainable food. As attendees will see at this event, it is a perfect way to get a taste of delicious food that will help you gain a stronger connection and affinity for our local producers and chefs.Â
