Indiana Beer Week July
10-17 opens and closes with two annual events celebrating their 15th anniversaries.
The Indiana State Fair
Brewers' Cup Awards Ceremony on July
10 honors winners in 23 categories and 100 subcategories,
along with best of show. It's one of the largest competitions in the country
with approximately 1,000 professional and homebrew entries. A special category
this year, the Woodford Reserve Challenge, is open to Indiana Homebrew Clubs
for members to age brews in barrels donated by the Woodford Reserve Distillery,
renowned for its small batch bourbon whiskey. While not open to the public,
this event spotlights the art and craft of brewing and focuses attention on
qualities of complexity and distinctive nuances of each brew. Many are featured
at the Microbrewers Festival, July 17, 3:00-7:00 p.m., at Opti Park, 820 E. 66th St., Broad Ripple. New this year for the expected 5,000 visitors is
expansion to the Indianapolis Art Center, across the street. Advance tickets at Indiana breweries
and Crown Liquor stores. Visit brewersofIndiandiaguild.org
Indiana's top brewers and chefs team up to showcase their craft at a
dinner on July 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Chef JJ's Back Yard, 1040 Broad Ripple Ave.
Each course features a specialty cooked/brined with a beer and paired with a
complementary beer. Chefs and brewers on hand to describe each course include:
